Who is David Turnbull?

All I ever wanted to be when I grew up was to be a Golf Professional.

I spent most of my formative years at Tavistock Golf Club playing golf and practicing hours on end.    I practically lived on Whitchurch Down.   I had dreams of becoming the next Nick Faldo (showing my age) but by 2003 those dreams were unfortunately long gone.

Although it was really hard, I had to accept that I just wasn’t good enough.

What on earth was I going to do now?  I had absolutely no idea.

I have always loved meeting people and I am a very sociable person.   But I didn’t really have any particular skills apart from being able to hit a golf ball.

Like most people in Estate Agency I fell into the property industry.

In 2004 I ripped up my winning speech for the British Open and the Masters.  I replaced it with a training manual as an estate agent.   I accepted a position as a trainee negotiator for a hugely successful independent estate agency in Ivybridge.

This is where I cut my teeth and for the next thirteen years I had the best training I could have ever hoped for, a fantastic culture and I was an important part of an awesome team.

I didn’t grow up wanting to be an estate agent, but boy, I have absolutely loved it ever since!!

Over the last four years I have worked for the UK’s largest corporate agent and a local rural agency so I have been lucky to work in many property sectors adding to my experience.

Technology and the internet have seismically changed all of our lives over recent years and it has also changed how people sell their homes.

In 2020 and coming up to twenty years estate agency experience I am more excited than ever to be able to launch my own estate agency covering West Devon and South East Cornwall operating from my home town of Tavistock that I know and dearly love.

How am I Different from every other Estate Agent?

Kindness.   It is not a weakness it’s my strength.

Not widely regarded as a matter for most estate agents, kindness is perceived within the industry as a weakness.   Corporate language, when dealing with prospective clients, is rife with hackneyed expression of “hustle”, “hot leads” and “hot buyers”.

The implication being that success is down to an individual’s willingness to win; no matter what the cost.

That’s what a competitive estate agency sector brings.  With it, the reputation as one of the least trusted of professions.

So, I don’t compete.   I don’t conform to that stereotype.  I’d rather homeowners choose me for my character than my ability to manipulate the conversation.
